Phytosphera Azorica was born from the conviction that the Azores have something unique to offer the global cosmetics industry—and that this richness deserves to be translated into rigorous, effective, and honest products.

It is not enough to use natural ingredients. One must understand, validate, and formulate them with the same level of rigor applied to any other science.

The laboratory was founded in 2018 in São Miguel with the aim of bridging the gap between applied scientific research and the cosmetics industry—offering brands a technical partner that is rigorous, transparent, and genuinely passionate about Azorean nature.

Today, Phytosphera develops formulations for domestic and international brands, provides regulatory affairs services, and actively collaborates with academic institutions—always adhering to the same guiding principle: science in the service of nature and the skin.

THE FACILITIES

A laboratory built for formulating

Our facilities in São Miguel are designed to support all phases of cosmetic development—from formulation to the finished product—featuring specialized equipment and quality control integrated into every stage.

Good Manufacturing Practices — ISO 22716:2007

We follow the guidelines of this international standard across all laboratory processes—from the receipt and quality control of raw materials to the packaging and shipment of the final product. In practice, this means complete traceability for every batch, documented protocols for every operation, and systematic control of critical parameters for each formulation. For our partner brands, this translates into confidence: every product leaving the laboratory is fully documented and complies with European regulatory requirements.

The Phytosphera team combines a solid scientific background in Biology and Chemistry with over 25 years of research experience—spanning plant physiology, molecular developmental mechanisms, and the metabolism of natural compounds.

This academic foundation—uncommon for a small-scale cosmetic laboratory—enables us to approach every project with an analytical depth that goes beyond conventional formulation: we understand ingredients at the molecular level, which is directly reflected in the quality and consistency of our formulations.

Phytosphera maintains an active relationship with universities and technical schools, hosting students ranging from those completing curricular internships to doctoral candidates. This connection to academia is an integral part of our identity—and a way to contribute to the training of future generations of scientific cosmetics specialists.
